01 · Context

Onboarding inside QuickBooks HCM.

New Hire Onboarding is part of QuickBooks HCM, where about 300,000 companies were eligible to use it. I came to Intuit through the GoCo acquisition and own the product as PM in a product, engineering, and design triad, working with a 7-person engineering and QA team across the US and Brazil.

02 · Problem

Low engagement, and other teams waiting.

At the start, 6.6% of eligible companies were engaged at 90 days, and three other feature teams were blocked until permissions changed.

03 · Decisions

The calls, and what they cost.

Decision 1

Build a platform, not more features

What I did
Evolved onboarding into an extensible platform with configurable workflow templates.

Decision 2

Open the integration model to partners

What I did
Expanded the integration model to support Clair earned wage access and Credit Karma Money.

Decision 3

Take on the foundation work

What I did
Led a permissions migration.
Result
Three other feature teams were unblocked.

04 · Influence

Leverage beyond my team.

The permissions migration was work my team took on so three other feature teams could ship.

05 · Outcome

What changed.

75K+ companies used New Hire Onboarding within six months of launch, and 90-day engagement rose 3.3×, to 21.6% of eligible companies.
